The Independent Interventional Radiology Residency Program offers IR residents experience in the full gamut of vascular and nonvascular procedures in both adult and pediatric populations. Included among these are diagnostic angiography, percutaneous angioplasty and stenting, embolization therapy, percutaneous tumor ablative therapies, thrombolysis, gastrointestinal/biliary interventions, genitourinary interventions, transplant interventions, dialysis fistula/graft evaluation and treatment, drainage and/or sclerosis, and vascular access. We have a very large volume of oncology work at our Chandler Medical Center, as you would expect of a NCI (National Cancer Institute) designated center, and we are very active in both chemoembolization and SIRT as well as percutaneous ablative therapies such as microwave ablation and cryoablation. Our center is a busy liver, kidney, heart and lung transplant center providing a wide variety of complex cases.

IR residents have exposure to peripheral vascular interventions, aortic aneurysm stent graft repair and venous ablation therapies through a collaborative relationship with the Division of Vascular Surgery. Chandler Medical Center is our main University Hospital and is the only level one trauma center in a 60-mile radius with a larger surrounding referral base from Appalachia. We have a large volume of emergent solid organ and pelvic embolization from trauma. Trainees will also have the opportunity to rotate through cardiovascular radiology division to read CTA/MRA with associated advanced techniques such as microvascular reconstruction.

APPOINTMENT & ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates must have completed an ACGME-approved (or equivalent) residency training program in diagnostic radiology and be Board-eligible/certified by the American Board of Radiology. All candidates must be eligible for Kentucky Medical Licensure.
