Leading IR research to advance healthcare
SIR and SIR Foundation strongly encourage research that advances patient care.
Improving patient care and quality of life.
SIR Foundation is the only organization fully dedicated to interventional radiology (IR) research—leading clinical trials and registries, supporting clinical and basic scientific research, mentoring researchers, orchestrating international multidisciplinary expert panels and research summits, and identifying and addressing the highest priority research needs in IR.
Increasing knowledge through clinical trials.
Clinical trials involve the investigation of a drug, device or procedure on a specific population to evaluate the effects on health outcomes. SIR Foundation supports a variety of studies to advance the specialty of IR.

C-TRACT Trial
C-TRACT(Chronic Venous Thrombosis: Relief with Adjunctive Catheter-Directed Therapy) is a multicenter, randomized trial led by Suresh Vedantham, MD, FSIR, of the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University in St. Louis.
Clinical trial -
PRESERVE Trial
PRESERVE is the first large-scale, multi-specialty prospective clinical research trial to evaluate IVC filters use and long term follow-up.
Clinical trial -
ATTRACT trial
ATTRACT was designed to evaluate the ability of pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis (PCDT) to reduce the incidence and severity in patients with acute proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Research Priorities Clinical trial -
EMBOLIZE trial
The EMBOLIZE trial is a first-of-its-kind prospective, randomized controlled trial studying the effects of ovarian vein embolization (OVE) in reducing pain in women experiencing chronic pain due to pelvic venous disease (PeVD).
Clinical trial
Clinical registries. Collecting data, improving quality.
Clinical registries collect data on a specific population defined by a particular disease, condition or procedure. The foundation encourages these endeavors as they support evidence-based research that can ultimately help improve quality and patient safety.
Fostering the next generation of researchers.
SIR Foundation has passionately encouraged and supported innovation for almost 30 years. The foundation’s programs support research training, new explorations and academic development.
