On April 3, SIR in collaboration with the Multisociety Pain Workgroup (MPW), sent formal comment letters to First Coast Service Options (FCSO) and Novitas Solutions addressing the proposed Local Coverage Determination (LCD) for trigger point injections (TPIs). The letters urges both Medicare Administrative Contractors to review the supporting evidence, which highlight the benefits of using ultrasound guidance for TPIs in certain anatomical areas. Without access to ultrasound guidance, diagnostic accuracy may be compromised, and the safety of some TPI procedures, such as those involving the anterior neck, deep gluteal muscles, and chest wall, could be significantly reduced. In clinical practice, ultrasound is commonly used in anatomically sensitive or deeper regions where precise localization is essential for safe and effective injections.
