John Moriarty, MD, FSIR, health sciences clinical professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and Vivian Lee Bishay, MD, associate professor of radiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, led the SIR Foundation Venous Research Consensus Panel (RCP) on “IR Interventions in Venous Thrombosis: Determination of Endpoints for Outcomes.” This meeting took place Jan. 22–23. The panel was composed of interventional radiologists, academic educators and researchers, vascular surgeons, and clinical investigators.

The group identified priorities further investigation, including the creation of a risk assessment model using existing large data sets or registries of acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) patients to derive and validate who is at risk of post thrombotic syndrome (PTS). Following the RCP, Drs. Moriarty and Bishay will collaborate with the panelists on a proceedings paper for submission to the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR).
