Supporting women in interventional radiology

This section is open to interventional radiologists who have a special interest in contributing toward the objectives of the section, including:

  • Provide a forum for women in interventional radiology to meet, interact and network. 
  • Increase the number of women within SIR leadership by providing a pathway for professional leadership development within the organization.
  • Provide a forum that supports women in interventional radiology and encourages the open exchange of information, which will help individuals further their careers.
  • Develop and present educational programs on a diverse range of topics relating to interventional radiology, career opportunities, career longevity and economic concerns.
  • Prepare and distribute information to the society that is interesting, educational and relevant.

Women in IR Champion Award

About the award

Launched at the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting, the Women in IR Champion Award is presented annually to recognize an individual who has consistently made a significant contribution to the advancement of women in IR, such as in sponsorship, mentorship, teaching, promotion, advocacy and recruitment.

The 2026 Women in IR Champion Award recipient is Sue E. Hanks, MD, FSIR. Dr. Hanks will be honored at the Women in IR InspIRed Lecture and Luncheon at the SIR 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting on Monday, April 13 at 12:10PM.
