About

This year-round program honors minority medical students and interns who have expressed an interest in interventional radiology by submitting an approved IR-related abstract to a national medical student conference.

Award benefit:

  • One $500 stipend to assist with travel expenses

Eligibility

  1. Applicant must be a medical student or in the intern year.
  2. Applicant must be an SIR member. Not a member? Join here
  3. Applicant must be planning to attend the national event where the abstract will be displayed.
  4. The applicant’s abstract must be relevant to the practice of interventional radiology. Note: Preferential support will be given to abstracts that relate directly to the practice of interventional radiology and to those advancing the themes of diversity, equity, and inclusion in medicine, such as understanding or reducing specific health disparities.
  5. Eligible events: The event must be within 60 days of this application being submitted. Events include national medical student or trainee conferences that provide an opportunity for students to present scholarly work, participate in student-focused programming, and/or engage with a national medical education audience. Examples may include SNMA AMEC, LMSA National Conference, LMSA SALUD Summit, AMA Medical Student Section meetings, AMSA national events, ANAMS meetings, and similar national medical student conferences.
     
    Not eligible:
    SIR meetings and conferences and related meetings, including WAIS, SIO, ISET, and VIVA, are not eligible.

Additional requirements

Required to be submitted with the online application:

  • A summary of your abstract (500 words or less)
  • Abstract acceptance letter

Within 30 days of the event ending, the applicant must submit the following:

  • An essay describing their use of IR in their abstract and their next steps in IR (250 words or less)
  • A short financial processing form provided by SIR
