SIR helps relaunch Congressional PAD Caucus during American Heart Month
On Feb. 11, SIR participated in a Capitol Hill event to relaunch the Congressional PAD Caucus. SIR representative Gray Lyons, MD, PhD, of Johns Hopkins Medicine, joined physician representatives from the Society for Vascular Surgery, Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, Outpatient Endovascular and Interventional Society, and the Association of Black Cardiologists, as well as members of Congress and patient advocates, in educating Congress on the devastating impact of PAD on patients and advocating for legislation to expand Medicare reimbursement for PAD screening. The screening event coincided with American Heart Month to raise awareness about this important aspect of cardiovascular health.
SIR is proud to participate in the PAD Pulse Alliance and we thank Reps. Gus Bilirakis and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick for their bipartisan leadership. The SIR Government Affairs Committee also thanks Dr. Lyons for his participation in this presentation and his willingness to represent IR and the importance of the specialty in treating such a devasting disease. With committed members like Dr. Lyons, SIR will continue to expand advocacy efforts for the specialty and the many procedures performed by IR’s that improve the lives of millions of patients every year.
