RHEC launches effort to FREE patients from fibroids!
SIR, as a member of the Radiology Health Equity Coalition, invites you to participate in the RHEC’s Fibroid Relief Empowerment Effort (FREE) Project.
Kicking off in July in celebration of Fibroid Awareness Month, the FREE Project is a grassroots, community-based and interventional-radiologist-led program to raise awareness of UFE as a fibroid treatment among people of color, who are disproportionately affected by fibroids.
The program was launched to combat the systemic imbalance in information access, referral pathways and community trust. The program overcomes these disparities through direct, in person education outside traditional clinical settings through public health events, health fairs and healthcare summits. Medical students, residents and other IR ambassadors committed to health equity will be deployed as educators and liaisons to distribute patient friendly educational materials that connect patients directly to UFE programs and resources. FREE also aims to develop stronger linkages between community outreach, gynecological practices and IR practices.
With active programs already across six major U.S. cities and counting, and plans for national expansion, this is a pivotal moment to get involved. Together, we can ensure that every person affected by fibroids has access to the knowledge, resources, and care they deserve.
