Jay Bhattacharya, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will serve as acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He joins many other administration officials in serving as “acting” leaders to other agencies. Because this is an acting appointment, he can only serve for 210 days. CDC has been without leadership since Susan Monarez was fired last August. Bhattacharya replaces Deputy Health Secretary Jim O’Neill in the acting role. O’Neill now moves on to National Science Foundation.
