The Association of Program Directors in IR (APDIR) has updated its interview statement for the 2026–2027 Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) interview cycle. Consistent with trends across surgical subspecialties, APDIR recommends a return to in-person interviews. This guidance is intended to support IR residency programs that wish to adopt this format, including those requiring approval from local graduate medical education (GME) offices. At the same time, programs may continue to utilize virtual or hybrid interview formats if those approaches better align with their institutional context and recruitment needs.
