As we recognize Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month, it’s a good time to reflect on the important role interventional radiologists play in diagnosing and treating venous disease. Clear and consistent procedure documentation helps improve communication, track outcomes, and support quality improvement efforts.

SIR’s standardized reports initiative provides physician-developed templates that bring structure and consistency to IR procedure documentation. These templates include best-practice language and key clinical data elements to help ensure important details—such as indications, techniques, and outcomes—are captured clearly and consistently. Templates are available for a wide range of IR procedures, including lower extremity interventions and follow-up, which are commonly performed in patients with thrombotic disease.

Standardized reports are designed to work within existing clinical workflows while supporting broader quality initiatives. They also help enable data-driven efforts like VIRTEX, SIR’s clinical data registry and analytics platform, by allowing important clinical data to be extracted directly from procedure reports without adding extra documentation work for physicians.
