Business of IR 2026
Empowering IRs to lead, build and thrive in a changing healthcare landscape.
About
In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare environment, interventional radiologists (IR) must do more than master procedures — they must also master the business of their practice. SIR Business of IR is the only conference designed to equip IRs with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to lead in private and academic practice settings.
Whether you are a private practice owner optimizing your Office-Based Lab (OBL) or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), an academic leader driving service line innovation, or a business decision maker wanting to concentrate on IR-specific insights, this 2-day event brings together the nation's foremost IR business minds to deliver practical insights and peer-tested strategies.
Across two days and multiple tracks, attendees will explore:
- Revenue cycle management, coding, and billing optimization
- Navigating reimbursement policies and payer relationships.
- Practice growth, staffing, and operational efficiency
- Outpatient migration strategies for academic and hybrid IRs
- Leadership, compensation, and value-driven decision-making
As the IR field continues to evolve, driven by policy shifts, outpatient care expansion, and reimbursement reform, this conference offers a deep dive into the business acumen and innovation strategies that are crucial for long-term success in both hospital-based and independent practice settings.
With a dual-track format and parallel consulting experience, this conference offers customized content for every practice type, career stage, and business role — from newly independent IRs to section chiefs shaping the future of hospital-based IR. Attendees will be able to tailor their experience to their specific needs—whether they are looking to innovate their practice model or optimize their financial performance under new reimbursement policies.
Join your peers, mentors, and industry experts in a focused, solutions-driven environment where business fluency becomes clinical empowerment.
Unlike clinically focused national meetings, this conference delivers practical business strategies tailored to both private practice growth and academic IR leadership through peer-led sessions, real-time consulting, and cross-sector collaboration.

Track program
Track 1: Optimizing Revenue and Reimbursement Strategy
Master the fundamentals of healthcare reimbursement, coding and billing to strengthen your practice's financial foundation. Physicians and healthcare business leaders often face challenges due to limited training in revenue cycle management. This course offers hands-on learning to bridge these knowledge gaps and provides essential tools for effective financial literacy.
What can you expect?
- Improve revenue outcomes: learn actionable skills to identify and recover missed revenue.
- Engage in informed conversations: gain confidence in discussing revenue needs with administrators.
- Build systems for accurate payment: put effective structures in place to ensure you’re paid for the work you do.
Whether you’re working in academic practice, a private practice, or a hybrid setting, this course provides adaptable strategies that apply to any practice model.
Track 2: Practice Growth and Innovation
The outpatient shift in Medicare payment policy has reached a pivotal moment, with CMS’s 2026 proposal signaling accelerated momentum toward site neutrality, expanded ASC coverage, and practice expense recalibrations favoring office-based care. These changes present both a challenge and a strategic opportunity for Interventional Radiologists to redefine their role in care delivery, especially as hospitals and private practices prepare to embrace outpatient expansion.
In response, the Business of IR track has been developed to equip IR professionals with the business acumen, strategic frameworks, and leadership tools necessary to thrive in the evolving healthcare landscape. This education offering goes beyond clinical excellence—focusing on practice model innovation, outpatient migration strategies, and operational readiness. As hospitals explore ASC integration and IRs venture into independent contracting or private OBL startups, this track ensures attendees gain the financial, regulatory, and strategic competencies needed to shape their own futures.
What to Expect from this Track?
- Understand how current CMS payment reforms, including site neutrality and ASC-CPL expansion, impact IR practice models, reimbursement, and outpatient opportunities.
- Analyze real-world case studies that demonstrate successful outpatient transitions, both in private and hospital-based IR settings.
- Apply actionable strategies for developing business plans, engaging hospital executives, and preparing IR practices for financial and operational sustainability in ASC/OBL environments.
IRs are well-positioned to deliver high-value care in OBL settings, where patient satisfaction is high due to minimally invasive procedures and faster recovery times. This track will help participants align clinical excellence with sound business practices to enhance operational success and patient outcomes.
Join colleagues and industry leaders in this high-impact, strategy-focused track and walk away with actionable insights to drive your practice forward.
