About:
Our IR residents are exposed to an environment of excellent teaching, outstanding research and a collegial work environment. In addition to being active team members of the procedure and reading rooms, residents also participate in ongoing research projects under the supervision of the Interventional Radiology faculty. The residents are exposed to a well-rounded spectrum of pathology in all areas including advanced Arterial, venous, portal, oncology, GI, GU, pain and pediatric image-guided procedures. Clinical teaching is complemented by interventional lectures, interesting case conferences, and interdisciplinary conferences. As part of the IR Independent program, trainees are immersed in a comprehensive range of procedures aimed at treating many disorders which include peripheral artery disease, traumatic bleeding, vascular malformations, fibroids, BPH, osteoarthritis, gonadal and saphenous venous insufficiency, acute and chronic DVT, PE, portal htn, portomesenteric thrombosis, dialysis access maturation and thrombosis, HCC, cholangiocarcinoma, liver metastases, lung cancer, vertebral and pelvic fractures, cholangitis/biliary obstruction and a wide range of minimally invasive pain procedures.
MUSC fosters a collaborative clinical scientific environment supporting its faculty, fellows and residents in many ways including state-of-the-art clinical equipment at all locations. These imaging facilities feed a common PACS, and studies are read at the main university campus in Charleston. MUSC consists of several closely related clinical service organizations. These include the University Hospital, the Ashley River Tower, the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, MUSC Health West Ashley, MUSC Health East Cooper, Children's Health R. Keith Summey Medical Pavilion, and Hollings Cancer Institute.
