Industry Insights: Is Active Tract Closure the New Standard for Biopsy? by SinglePass
Percutaneous biopsy is effective and widely used, but most biopsy tracts are still left to close on their own. Bleeding and pneumothorax remain the most common complications, and they can mean chest tubes, extended observation, or hospital admission. Cells displaced along the needle path are another concern that current practice rarely addresses. Active tract closure offers a different approach to optimizing biopsy outcomes for patients: managing the tract itself rather than treating complications after they occur.
In this panel discussion, presented in collaboration with the Society of Interventional Radiology, leading interventional radiologists will weigh the evidence and practical considerations behind active tract closure, including:
- Clinical and economic impact of bleeding and pneumothorax after biopsy
- How thermal cautery seals the tract, and what clinical experience with the SinglePass device shows so far
- Preclinical findings on cauterizing displaced cells in the tract, and what they may mean for patients
- What it would take for active tract closure to become standard of care. The session closes with a live Q&A where attendees can put questions directly to the panel.
SinglePass is a battery-powered electrocautery system engineered to cauterize and seal the biopsy tract immediately after tissue sampling. The sealed tract is visually confirmed under ultrasound or CT, providing clinicians confidence that the closure is complete.
Join our expert faculty to learn how SinglePass works and why leading clinicians are integrating this innovative technology.
