The Society of Interventional Radiology recognizes that the success of our mission draws strength not just from the clinical expertise of our physicians, but from their backgrounds and experiences as human beings in the world. An innovative, competitive IR workforce requires more than market competencies—it must also carry the power of innate, authentic human connection.

Our society values a culture of excellence in which all members of the IR community are accepted, respected and embraced.

Guiding principles

SIR’s commitment to excellence is anchored in three guiding principles: 

  1. SIR recognizes a need to grow the community of interventional radiologists to better serve the patient population.  

  2. SIR fosters member engagement and growth through education, awareness, outreach and networking.    

  3. SIR promotes a culture of excellence in all aspects of the society’s programs, policies, communications and services. 

Objectives

SIR supports continuous learning and professional growth in interventional radiology in the following ways 

Recruitment

Influence medical student perceptions to actively recruit the best and brightest to IR

Health disparities

Identify IR deserts to ensure that all who could be positively affected by IR care can access it in their communities

Awareness and collaboration

Leverage media channels and collaboration opportunities to amplify our efforts to spread awareness of IR as a medical specialty

Member education and resources

Develop and disseminate tools to foster excellence and increase respect for the field
