Practice development

SIR Practice development and operations are charged with generating programs, processes, guidelines and policies that enhance clinical excellence and growth for interventional radiologists in their practice of choice. We strive towards developing and maintaining an open dialogue between hospital systems/ health systems and SIR.

Empowering your practice

SIR promotes excellence in patient care while enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of your chosen practice model.  We strive to produce resources enabling those who deliver care to make changes to facilitate better clinical outcomes and improve the quality and safety of care.  Our increased effectiveness in patient-centered care materials helps you continue to build your practice based on patients' needs.  We continually seek to build strategies to improve health care delivery and adaptive development of the next generation of interventional radiologists.

What is practice development?

The term practice development covers a wide range of activities, including the introduction of changes in practice, the support and development of practitioners, setting standards and quality improvement. It is often used loosely and interchangeably with other terms, such as the implementation of research evidence. Practice development has the following key characteristics:

  • Focuses on the improvement of patient care
  • Incorporates a range of approaches
  • Occur in real practice settings
  • Underpinned by the development and active engagement of practitioners
  • Collaborative and interprofessional
  • Evolutionary
  • Transferable rather than generalizable

Practice development can contribute to solving the problems associated with the modernization agenda. Practice development is important because it does not rely on simplistic, top-down change strategies and is not seen as a separate bolt-on activity to everyday practice, but as integral to it.
