SIR 2025 Medical Student Scholar Program Information

The application window is CLOSED.  Applications will be in review by SIR's volunteer physician reviewers. 

All applicants to this program will be advised of the final outcome by end first week of December, 2024.

The SIR 2025 Medical Student Scholar Program provides medical students with an immersive experience to learn about IR at an early stage in their medical careers.

Scholar program benefits:

  • Free registration to SIR 2025
  • $1,000 scholarship to support travel to SIR 2025
  • Special recognition during the meeting
  • Dedicated scholars reception and networking opportunities, Sunday, March 30
  • Dedicated medical student programming Saturday, March 29

Application criteria:

  • Applicants must be medical students within the U.S. or Canada  
  • Applicants must be an SIR Medical Student Member
  • Applicants doing a research year (not yet graduated) are eligible to apply
  • Prior SIR Medical Student Travel Scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply
  • Applicants who have served or currently serving as a member of the Medical Student General Council are not eligible to apply
  • Invited/accepted to speak at a general session (not scientific session) or medical student, resident programming at SIR 2025 are not eligible to apply
  • Deadline to apply: Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, midnight/PT - Now Closed

The following required application materials to be submitted within the online application:

  • Up-to-date CV
  • Answers to each of the following three short essay questions:
  1. In 250 words or less, describe how could IR be grown to help underserved communities. 
  2. In 250 words or less, describe what is your understanding of interventional radiology.
  3. In 250 words or less, describe what you hope to gain by attending the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting.
  4. In 250 words or less, what challenge(s) do you see IR facing in the next 10 years adn how to overcome them?

An optional letter of recommendation from an attending physician (the attending physician does not have to be an interventional radiologist).  ​After you submit your online scholar program application, the receipt of application will include a link to send to your attending physician to submit an optional letter of recommendation on your behalf. 

    ***If you intend to submit an optional letter of recommendation, it is due by Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, midnight/PT. Please submit your application in advance of the submission due date to ensure your attending has enough time to submit your letter.

    Post-meeting essay requirement

    Upon returning home, scholarship recipients must submit a 500-word essay about their experience, which may be published in part or in its entirety in society publications or on the SIR website. In your essay, please describe your experiences at the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting. Once the final essay is received, scholarship recipients will receive their $1,000 stipends via wire transfer.
