2023–2024 JVIR Resident Editorial Fellowship

JVIR announces new editorial fellowship opportunity designed for residents

Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) Editor-in-chief Daniel Y. Sze, MD, PhD, FSIR, is pleased to announce the inaugural JVIR Resident Editorial Fellowship, which will begin at the SIR 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting and run until SIR 2024. The program will offer participants the opportunity to shadow editorial leadership, take part in regular strategic discussions and decision-making, receive valuable instruction on fundamental elements of scholarly writing, editing and publishing, and more. According to Dr. Sze, “The JVIR Resident Editorial Fellowship will introduce IR trainees to the peer review, editing, ethics, and publication process for scientific manuscripts through an immersive mentored experience with the JVIR editorial board, and will help cultivate a diverse pipeline of IRs with editorial expertise who will serve as our next generation of leaders.”

JVIR-Jan-2022-cover.jpgThe program, developed by JVIR Senior Deputy Editor Ron C. Gaba, MD, MS, FSIR, will begin at SIR 2023 with involvement in educational events and receptions that will acknowledge participants’ selection into this prestigious fellowship. The intensive program will bolster attendees’ critical acumen in discerning a manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses while strengthening their own ability to design studies and draft manuscripts. Dr. Gaba said, “By incorporating academic and editorial education and experiences not routinely included in clinical residency training, the JVIR Resident Editorial Fellowship will help participants broaden and refine their academic competencies and accelerate career success.”

The fellowship is directed at IR/DR residents, Independent IR fellows, DR residents (including ESIR) and other IR trainees (research associates) with an interest in academic publishing, manuscript composition and peer review, as demonstrated by their authored research, research-based studies, journal reviews, or other scholarship and discovery efforts. Consideration will be given to particularly exceptional medical student applicants.

Participants can look forward to the following activities, all facilitated by virtual interaction using video conferencing platforms:

  • One-on-one mentorship by a JVIR Editorial Board member
  • Apprenticeship in manuscript review and disposition
  • Participation in strategic discussions
  • Possible opportunities to co-author publications
  • Completion of an educational curriculum
