Grassroots action

Volunteer to become a grassroots leader. As a member of the grassroots team, you will be assigned to lead a specific geographic district. When Action Alerts arise, you may help mobilize your colleagues in your area to take action and make the voice of interventional radiology heard.

Specifically, the Action Alerts will prompt you to take action by asking that your colleagues call or write their members of Congress and ask them to support or oppose legislation or policy issues that affect interventional radiology.

SIR will provide the information you need to contact your colleagues and provide talking points for a telephone call or a predrafted letter that they can send electronically.

In recognition of your grassroots service, you will be recognized in an edition of Washinigton Interventionalist Report and at the SIR's Annual Scientific Meeting

Over the past years, your contributions to SIRPAC helped us support candidates who:

  • Halted Medicare reimbursement cuts of up to 41 percent for IR services
  • Gained some increases in Medicare reimbursement
  • Introduced a bill which would increase the number of GME funded slots for IR residency programs
  • Reduced the multiple procedure payment reduction (MPPR) rate from 25 percent to 5 percent of the professional component of advanced imaging services
  • Presented key congressional testimony on the society's behalf
  • Introduced a bill that called for federal funding of uterine fibroid research and education
  • Introduced a bill that would set education and certification standards for nonphysicians offering imaging services
  • Introduced legislation designed to halt DRA imaging reimbursement cuts

If you would like to get involved in advocating for advances in interventional radiology, please contact Judi Buckalew SIR's director of government and policy affairs.
