CME Policy
As an accredited sponsor of continuing medical education, the CME Office of the Society of Interventional Radiology's Education Department is responsible for assuring that the educational activities it jointly sponsors with non-accredited entities comply with the Essential Areas and ancillary policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
The Office of CME shall be responsible for assuring that the Essential Areas, ancillary policies, and the following guidelines are met in conducting all jointly sponsored CME activities.
- All proposed CME activities must be reviewed and approved by the Office of CME. The review process includes an initial review by an Office of CME Representative with a final review by the Society of Interventional Radiology CME Committee.
- It is recommended that the application for Category I credit be submitted to the Office of CME at least six (6) months before the date of an educational offering. The application form must be signed by a representative designated by the non-accredited entity and by a representative of the Office of CME (generally the CME Administrator).
- The Office of CME, or SIR designee, must participate in the planning and implementation of the activity.
- The Office of CME shall have oversight and will monitor the financial management of the activity. In addition, the activity must meet ACCME Essential Areas and comply with all ancillary policies and ACCME Standards for Commercial Support.
- The activity must be consistent with the Office of CME's mission and include topics that will aid Interventional Radiologists improve their practice of medicine.
- The Office of CME must give final approval to all promotional or program materials. No materials may be printed until the Office of CME has granted approval for Category I credit.
- As specified in the CME Essentials, the Office of CME, Society of Interventional Radiology name and/or logo, and appropriate recognition of joint sponsorship must appear on all promotional materials and on the printed program of the activity.
- The Office of CME, Society of Interventional Radiology, will provide the appropriate accreditation statement and statement of number of Category 1 credit hours to be awarded at the time of the program review
- If other accrediting bodies, [such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC)], are also sponsors of the program, the credit designation statement of those organizations must appear on program materials and brochures separately from the ACCME accreditation statement.
- If two or more accredited sponsors are involved in an activity, then one of them must assume responsibility for the activity and this must be clearly indicated on all printed materials.
- Upon completion of the activity, the course director must forward to the Office of CME copies of all registration lists, attendance records, sign-in sheets, and completed evaluation forms.
- The current accreditation fee schedules are attached to this policy. In addition to this fee, reimbursement for travel and expenses for a minimum of one CME staff person will be added to the fees assessed. The number of staff required will be determined at the discretion of the CME Administrator and Director of Education.
